Allen Bradley 445L-R4S0360YD Safety Light Curtain (Rockwell Automation)

 

A safety light curtain is an electrically powered sensor set used on machinery to detect the presence of objects or personnel in close proximity to a hazard. The sensors will be used to stop the machinery in order to prevent injury.

 

They may be used in place of metal fabricated machinery guarding, depending upon the hazard to be guarded against and other operating conditions.

 

A light curtain consists of a transmitter and receiver unit. The reference provided 445L-R4S0360YD refers to the receiver only. The transmitter 445L-T4S0360YD emits infrared light pulses which are detected by the receiver.

 

The light curtain pair is referenced 445L-P4S0360YD and has an object resolution size of 30mm (1.18”), a detection range of 18m (59ft) for a protective height of 360mm (14.2”).

   

 

 

 

The light curtain components must be mounted well away from reflective surfaces and the point of danger.

For two and three-sided detection perimeters, special mirrors from the light curtain manufacturer may be used.

 

 

 

 

 

The GuardShield Safe 4 safety light curtain operates as a proper protective device only if the following conditions arc met:

• The control of the machine must be electrical.
• The controlled machine must be able to be stopped anywhere in the machines stroke or cycle.
• The transmitter and receiver must be mounted such that access to the hazard is only through the protective field of the light curtain.
• The restart burton must be located outside the hazardous area such that a person working inside the hazardous area cannot operate it.
• The statutory and local rules and regulations must be observed when installing and using the device.
