This Dodge spherical roller bearing and pillow block housing utilise an integral push/pull sleeve for shaft mounting purposes, which improves concentricity and reduces vibration.
Spherical roller bearings are suited to high radial loads and can also carry axial loads (provided there is a radial load present). They are perfectly suited for applications where shaft misalignment (of up to +-1°) may be present.
Introducing more than two pillow blocks to support a shaft will induce additional bearing loadings unless alignment of all bearings is highly precise.
The manufacturer recommends a shaft tolerance of +0.000”/-0.003” for this specific bore sized unit to ensure a good fit. The shaft would also require a surface finish of 3.2microns (0.000126”) and the geometry may have to be toleranced for circularity and concentricity with adjacent shaft diameters depending upon the design arrangement.
The bearing service life is dependent upon several factors including the ratio of the dynamic capacity of the bearing to the bearing load.
