Black Pearl - the steam powered motorcycle
Dec 19, 2015
Constructed by Dutch company Revatu Customs, the Black Pearl, the two wheeler vehicle is powered by a steam engine and it’s a fully functional motorcycle.
Van Tuilowner of Revatu Customs built an unique two wheeler whose locomotive inspiration is obvious from every angle. It mimics a steam engine model, an exposed crankshaft rotates the rear wheel by means of an eccentric pivot for transmission. A bell and a steam horn is also attached along with two shock absorbers that connects the steering to the wheel through a trailing link structure, with a drum brake that is assigned with the task of stopping the vechile.
Although its top speed: 8 km/hr, barely enough to outpace a pedestrian during your morning walk, but it certainly will do is ride unlike any other motorcycle and shorter distances are definitely feasible. The design looks a bit premature until the designer finds out how much coal and water it can store.
Based on the same mechanism as a steam locomotive, the motorcycle is propelled by a massive crankshaft. The suspension looks a bit overkill. However, front leading axle linkeage looks good. It took eight tedious months for René to build the Black Pearl Steam Motorcycle. They concept may be not be very practical for day-to-day life, but any the new design shows the human creativity at its best.
