Predicting Impending Machinery Breakdowns
October 31, 2015
Sunstate Cement Ltd, a leading cement manufacturer has enhanced its mill reliability and improved production by using FAG SmartCheck vibration monitoring technology, which predicts and avoid costly breakdowns and maintenance shutdowns. The innovative technology, a compact, robust and easy to install online measuring system is being introduced by Schaeffler Australia. The device can continuously monitor plant, machinery and process parameters on real time to optimize productivity and overall process management. It enhances equipment reliability and efficiency, and avoids costly breakdowns.
FAG SmartCheck takes intelligent machine monitoring to a new level and makes the online monitoring of small, non process critical systems such as compressors, spindles, gearboxes, electric motors, pumps, ventilators and fans cost-efficient.
At Sunstate Cement Ltd where this device was installed on a tube mill helped in avoiding the need to replace its end drive bearing, which could cost more than $300,000. Sunshine State’s three tube mills have a production capacity of 60-100 t/h and now production is safeguarded against any disruption by FAG SmartCheck monitoring.
FAG SmartCheck can be used on assemblies where such monitoring previously was cost prohibitive. With a unique full service around machine diagnosis and rolling bearings, unique price/performance ratio, the FAG SmartCheck makes a valuable contribution in reducing Life Cycle Cost as well as Total Cost of Ownership.
