Six Figure Savings on Fuel Annually

ABB Group (ABB) has developed a two-stage turbo charging technology that will help achieve six figure savings on fuel annually. Power2 800-M turbocharging is being used on Wartsila 31 marine engine that has broken Guinness World Record for efficiency in a four-stroke diesel engine.

Along with significant savings on fuel, the second generation Power2 800-M could reduce 60 percent in NOx emissions. The new innovative technology surpasses current industry standards in enabling increased fuel savings, power output and emission reductions. Still, the challenge is to offer consistency across various fuel options and beat conventional turbochargers that are still very efficient.

ABB believes turbochargers that can work with high pressure ratio and higher efficiency to minimize fuel consumption is the way forward. The new technology is targeted at marine applications where fuel flexibility is required for four-stroke engines to operate across a wide range of load profiles.

In Biden, Switzerland, at ABB turbo charging headquarters, the production has been scheduled for second generation of power2 800-M. Wartsila and ABB’s collaboration has generated a lot of buzz for this first-of-a-kind engine project.
