May 07, 2016
The largest solar-powered computer in the world, named as Watly 3.0, is a water purifier, provides internet and electricity. It was invented by Italian entrepreneur, Marco Attisani.
Watly weighs 15 tons that can produce electricity, purify water & provide Wi-Fi connectivity of up to 500 meters. It was first conceptualized in the year 2013, with the first version introduced as Watly 1.0, which could provide 50 liters of drinking water per day. The new powerful machine, version 3.0 has been providing drinking water in a small village in Ghana. The machine will generating 70 KW hours of electricity per day using photo-voltaic panels. The H-Shaped structure machine could generate free electricity by following the sun’s path throughout the day.
For Watly 3.0, a crowd-funding campaign was organized to raise funds on Indiegogo. With the help of crowdfunding, the founder hopes to finish the full-sized concept, Watly 3.0 in one of the locations in Africa that will also generate electricity. It can provide 5,000 liters of drinking water per day for up to 15 years and could generate solar power electricity for as many as 3,000 people!
The machine will reduce 2,500 tons of greenhouse gases (CO2), equivalent of 5,000 barrels of oil. Watly has a goal to combine necessities for developing countries: drinking water, electricity, and connectivity.
