World first in radio design – transforms warehouse automation
Feb 24, 2016
The world’s first radio design has been developed by Cambridge Consultants in conjunction with Ocado. It will transform its warehouse automation solution, that means Ocado can control and manage the movement of 1,000 machines in real-time and in parallel, significantly enhancing warehouse efficiency.
The innovative wireless solution is scalable and it could potentially handle 20 times the number of movements. The technology breakthrough makes Ocado’ advanced warehouse a home to the most jam- packed mobile network in the world.
The technology works in licence – free spectrum and it was created based on the principles of 4G but which can support one thousand devices from a single base station – over ten times more than is usually possible. It can be deployed anywhere in the world in shortest time. The system could be used to control fleets of semi-automatic vehicles at construction sites, factories and airfields. Ocado is the intellectual property owner and has filed a number of patents for the technology.
Ocado’s Smart Platform will help in pushing the boundaries of scalability, efficiency and modularity. Ocado new system will be responsible for delivering more than 2 million items every day to customers in the United Kingdom. The new system will certainly drive efficiency in Ocado’s network.
