Paint
This is a pigmented liquid or mastic composition that forms a thin solid film after application. It is mainly used to color, protect, and provide texture to objects. Paints are mainly made of three components; pigments, binders, and solvents. The pigment is the color component in the paint. The main reason why paints have specific colors is that they reflect some light wavelength and absorbs others. Some pigments used to give colors include iron oxide (yellow) and chromium oxide (green). Binders in paints are solids that help to make the paint hold onto the surface being painted. They glue the pigments to each other and the surface being painted. Some binders are made from oils such as linseed oil or synthetics such as rubber. When binders and pigments are put together, the result is a thick gloopy substance. To make it thinner and easy to apply, you need a solvent. The solvent is used to make the paint less viscous so that it can be spread easily. In some cases, solvents are referred to as thinners.
