Set Screw Pillow Blocks Medium Duty

A pillow block bearing, also known as a housed bearing unit, is the most common type of mounted bearing. It is used to provide support to rotating shafts and couplings in mechanical power transmission systems. It features a mounted block, which is also called the housing, that is perpendicular to the shaft. The housing is typically cast iron or steel. Bolt holes on each side of the housing are used to fasten it to the support surface. A pillow block bearing also features a self-aligning insert bearing. Typically, this type of mounted bearing is sealed and shielded to create a clean, contained environment.

Pillow block bearings are quite versatile, suitable for use in a wide range of applications. These include rolling mills, ventilation systems (e.g. fans, blowers), paper machines, drying ovens, conveyor belt rollers, belt processing equipment in steel mills, and long shafts connecting motors and industrial gearboxes.

Take note that while pillow block bearings and plummer blocks are often identified as the same, they do differ in application. Pillow block bearings tend to be used for lightweight applications while plummer blocks are used for transmitting high power and have heavier load capacities.

Pillow block bearings can be classified into several different types based on their housing construction - solid and split types - and the type of bearing used - plain, ball, roller (tapered, spherical, and needle roller bearings), and hydrodynamic bearings. These mounted bearings can further be classified based on the shaft securing method used, the number of bolt holes available, and the type of application they are suitable for (e.g. standard duty, medium duty).
