Classic A Section V-Belts

V-belts are the standard belt for transmitting mechanical power since the 1930s, overcoming common issues with early belts that often failed to accommodate slippage and misalignment during operations. Prior to v-belts, leather flat belts were used throughout many industries, since belt technologies offered the cheapest solution to power transmission between misaligned shafts. However, belt designs have trended away from the flat pulley and belt system since the more rope-like belts offered greater grip and driving power.

The "V" is derived from the shape belt's cross-section, with a wider outer membrane and smaller inner membrane to form a trapezoid or an incomplete "V" shape. The shape allows the pulley and the belt itself to wedge together as loads increase, whilst maintaining belt strength. The belt is made with tensile cords are embedded between an outer tension layer and inner compression layer to enhance the belts stretching and compression abilities. These layers are made with combination of modern polymer compounds and rubber-like suited for tension and compression respectively. Tensile cords are the primary load bearing component in a V-belt. These elements make V-belts the superior alternative to leather flat belts that required more tension and adversely affecting the pulley components.

Belts can be endless, linked together, or used with multiple belts depending on the environmental factors and operational needs. They require no lubrication and are are much quieter unlike chain rollers. Lastly, there also protective covering on the belts reduces frictional wear and increases the grip strength of the belt.  Applications for this belt in particular can be found throughout the food, agricultural, HVAC, and other multi-purpose industries the rely on belt driven technologies. The Classic belts can contribute to more wear on driving components when compared to it narrow and cogged counterparts (AX), but can thrive in under conditions those belts cannot. The Classic A Section features a 40° pulley angle, 0.50" X 0.31" profile. Belt lengths can be accommodated from a selection ranging from a little under two feet up to 50 feet.
