MRC Bearings

MRC Bearings, an SKF company, is a manufacturer of more than 7,000 varieties of ball bearings such as single row deep groove ball bearings, single row and double row angular contact ball bearings, self-aligning ball bearings, pillow blocks, and bearings for pump applications. The company also offers non-standard and custom made bearings for special applications. MRC Bearing products can be found in various machines all around the world such as food processing equipment, paper converting machinery, pumps, electric motors, gearboxes, and auxiliary power units, to name a few.

 

History

MRC Bearings is the product of three of the oldest bearing companies in the U.S. - Standard Roller Bearing Company, Gurney Ball Bearing Company, and Strom Bearing Company. The Standard Roller Bearing Company was established when it was mearged with the Ball Bearing Company of Boston along with seven other manufacturers of ball bearing and ball-making equipment. The Gurney Ball Bearing Company, on the other hand, was founded in 1902 by Frederick W. Gurney in Jamestown, New York. In 1905, Frederick Gurney introduced the Gurney "radial-thrust angular-contact" bearing then the Gurney "radial-Type R" bearing four years later. In addition, Gurney developed duplex bearings. Strom Ball Bearing Manufacturing Company, the last of the three companies mentioned earlier, was founded in 1908 by Stephen Snyder under the name U.S. Ball Bearing Manufacturing Company. The name was changed when Axel Strom became the sole owner. This company became an established supplier of precision ball bearings to the automotive and machinery markets. The Rockwell-Drake Corporation, founded by Albert F. Rockwell, started acquiring several corporations including the Standard Roller Bearing Company of Philadelphia. Several years later, the company was reorganized as Standard Steel Bearing, Inc., Division of Marlin Rockwell Corporation. Then, Gurney Ball Bearing Company merged with Marlin Rockwell Corporation in 1924. A year later, MRC acquired Strom Ball Bearing Manufacturing Corporation. In 1964, MRC merged with TRW, Incorporated. By 1979, it was renamed as the TRW Bearings Division. In 1986, the Bearing division was purchased by the SKF Group.
