Shaft mounted reducers are enclosed helical gear with a hollow output. The gears are mounted directly on the input shaft of the gear and get support from the motor mount frame attached to the machine housing. There is no need for extra parts to transmit torque from the speed reducer to the equipment. The shaft-mounted gear reducer has many advantages over the foot-mounted parallel shaft reducers like lower installation costs, compact size, and elimination of alignment requirements. This type of reducer mounts directly on the reducer housing with a mount and drives the gearbox with a
V-belt. It can be mounted in vertical, horizontal or inclined positions. Shaft mounted gear reducers typically have speed reduction ratios from 5:1 to 25:1, and output speeds range from 1 to 400 rpm. Most of these gears feature
helical gears as they have a longer and more effective tooth width. Some may have herringbone or
spur gears. Shaft mounted gear reducers are suitable for many applications including bulk material, grain, and aggregate handling industries. These reducers are marked in various classes: Class I, II or III or with their Service factors (SF): 1.0, 1.4 or 2.0. The parts of a shaft mount reducer include a rotating bushing ring, taper bushing, torque arm bracket, foot bracket, input or high-speed shaft, torque arm rod and turnbuckle.
